It’s essential that you at least familiarise yourself with the social networking elements that can be useful to your business. It’s not like google, where people search once. People sit for hours on facebook. It’s an integral part of there lives and as such, a valuable marketing tool. I keep telling my customers to get on board with it, but they don’t all listen. (shrugs)

Good post, social media is a massive new marketing method for businesses big or small. Small businesses can use it to get noticed and drive their first sales with little or no marketing budget.

Big businesses can use it to interact with customers to find out feedback on products and services and help drive brand awareness.

Interesting point:

A great way to promote social media to the business owner who believes that social media is simply a waste of time. As you pointed out it is not only a way to create a brand, but also a way to protect the brand you have created!

I agree that all businesses should embrace social media – whether it is a large corporation or a small family owned business. Social media is here to stay and its presence and impact on business will continue to grow. For any business afraid to get their feet wet, they should start small with a Twitter or Facebook account and grow from there.

I think that monitoring social mentions is most important, there are many opportunities there of stealing clients from companies they’re not satisfied with, but if noone listen’s, noone will hear.
