Ted,

As you rightly point out, if you don't know that there are conversations going on about your indistry then you can't participate and you can hardly complain about not being mentioned! So first step, know how to find out what is being said and then step up to the block with your own blog or comments on others.

I like to use a tool called MyBlogLog as it monitors in real time where people are finding your blog and what links they are clicking.

Monitoring blog conversations that effect your business

Whether your company blogs or not, you'd better be monitoring blogs to see what conversations are going on about you, your products, your industry, and more -- they often effect your business. Mark White has a great post at Better

I couldn't agree more!

I often amaze prospective clients by typing their company, product, industry terms, or maybe even a key executive name in Technorati and seeing what pops out!

One prospect recently was amazed at a highly positive report of a visit to the company.

Last week a client was "blown away" at how much conversation there was on their industry - and NONE about them :)
