Chad,

I'm not sure how you have gone about this so far, so I may be going over old ground.

Firstly, forget about the blog. Or rather forget about using the word blog. Just like in an external selling situation, don't focus on the product/idea that you are trying to sell (here, the blog) but look at the issues which exist which it could help to solve.

Once you have their attention on the issues, then you can show what the benefits would be if those issues were solved. From that point, this gives you the opportunity to demonstrate how a blog would provide these solutions/benefits. Give examples from other companies if possible and also make details quantifiable if you can - there is investment in time and money here on the part of the company so what is their return on this investment? They'll be interested in understanding that.

Basically, it will probably to better to focus on selling the benefits a blog offers (ideally in a measurable way) rather than the blog in itself.

Hope that helps and let me know how you get on.

Good post. At my office we have an internal blog for the whole company in which mostly the higher ups blog. I've tried to rally for a blog for my department (I blogged about this on our blog) but can't seem to get anywhere. Any ideas?
