Google News has a very specific group of sites that it takes content from. Google Blog Search takes content from blogs (unsurprisingly) but also I notice from forums occasionally which I think is less relevant personally. They are very different sets of results, though because of the nature of blogging, when it comes to current affairs you will find the topics repeated in the blogosphere of course.

I find Google Blog search a bit confusing as it mixes links from blogs and news sites - not sure it's that different from Google News.
