I like negative comments on my blog. They are usually the start of discussions and thus interaction! And that is the goal of the blogging for me

I think avoid negative comments on your blog at all costs is a bit misguided, if your trying to make your blog more popular.

Controversy is one of the main things people like to blog about. Often controversy sparks negative comments, but this is not necessarily a bad thing, especially for the popularity of your blog.

A wise person once said that any publicity is good publicity.

Another way to avoid negativity comments on your blog is to stay away from controversy, especially negative types.

However, it can be a great thing for your blog if your able to post content about topics that insight passion and debate

There is a fine line to walk here. I think the key is to keep your blog positive and upbeat.

I really can't see anything wrong in the bad comments. I agree, that negative comments are more like good, rather than bad thing.
You know, in business, when a client put in a claim for a product, the marketing managers are more like happy guys in that moment, 'coz there will always be more dissatisfied clients, than satisfied. More bad comments, more opportunities to improve your blog, site, business.
Don't you think?

Well, I would say the most effective way to avoid bad blog comments would be to write only high quality content.

Not sure if I agree with the turning off of comments. Just get a good spam protector to monitor those type of commentors..

I think that you should allow all comments but you can always go in and remove the blatantly negative comments that have no basis in fact (for example, ones left by a competitor).

I receive my daily dose of negative comments and I allow the free flow of comments on my website.... and I've found that others end up backing you up this way and ultimately the number of positive comments far outweighs the number of negatives.

Use pure moderation and you will get no comments.. but you can always go in and remove the really bad ones if there is ever abuse.

My 2 cents!
