I feel using different domain for a blog is much better than included in the website. As search engines have lot of information and may be the target audience can reach either to our site or blog which is not possible if they are not separately defined.

Either can be a good choice.You can have a blog on your website if needed.Example,your products needs a careful instruction or might as well the advantages of your product.On the other hand,a separate blog can be written for a more expandable sharing of information to your readers.

Its always better to use the same domain and suffix it with /blog or something. This way, you keep the SEO within your domain name as having another domain or even a subdomain, ie. blog.domainname – Google treats as two seperate sites. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for the post Mark! I’m working with a client who owns a financial consulting company to start a blog. The purpose of the blog is to generate awareness and loyalty. From what you wrote, it sounds like his website is the best place to host the blog but I hesitate because it’s a poor site. He is happy with it though. He will be blogging to add value to clients and prospects along the same lines of what he offers.

In my opinion, I will set up a blog with my site if the content and main topic is very much related. Example, a site for domain sports then have the latest blog about updates of different sports.
